I've lived and driven in a lot of places, and my car has 111,000 miles on the odometer to prove it, and I've come to realize Las Vegas drivers are some of the worst in the developed world. They aren't quite as bad as the drivers I encountered in Africa, I mean we have laws here those things seem to make a big difference, but sometimes I'm still shocked. On more than one occasion I've pulled over to get out of the way of some crazy idiot who was trying to run me off the road. I honk at a dangerous moron everyday. About 40% of drivers in LV can't negotiate a 4 way stop correctly, and it seems like even more can't figure out the correct way to navigate thru a round about. The road rage is becoming exhausting, but you want to know what really got my goat today?
Emergency Vehicles
and the people who didn't pull to the side of the road. We were driving down grand canyon and an engine and ambulance were coming towards us with their lights on. There was no center divider so I pulled over to the side of that very wide road. There were quite a few cars that passed me, and there was quite a line behind the emergency vehicles. The engine and ambulance pulled over to make a u-turn, and all of the cars in the line behind them went past. I don't know why I'm still so shocked by drivers in this city, I mean I've heard ads on the radio about being more careful while driving, because more locals are in fatal accidents with locals than with tourists.
If I see flashing lights or hear a siren I pull over. Maybe its cause my dad is a firefighter, maybe its because I've been in and had loved ones in the back of an ambulance, maybe its because I have a high level of regard for our Police and Fire Departments, maybe its cause of all the car accidents we used to go check out at the corner where Marcy's Candy Shop was, maybe its cause I once hear a firefighter reprimand a driver over the bull horn. He said, "idiot in the Honda, hang up your phone."
Maybe its cause I hope that if emergency services are ever on their way to my house, people will get out of the way!
